![]() 13 Righteousness shall go before him and shall set us in the way of his steps.” Psalms 85:9-13. 12 Yes, the LORD shall give that which is good and our land shall yield her increase. 11 Truth shall spring out of the earth and righteousness shall look down from heaven. 10 Mercy and truth are met together righteousness and peace have kissed each other. “ Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him that glory may dwell in our land. Looking forward to Christ's rule in the Kingdom of God, Psalms 85 reveals the emphasis God will place on righteousness and truth. “ Thus saith the LORD I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.” Zechariah 8:3 Restoring regard for truth as a universal way of life will be a priority when Jesus Christ returns to establish His rule. God expects truth to permeate every facet of our lives. Under God's inspiration, King David writes, “ Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbour no wrong and casts no slur on his fellow-man … who keeps his oath even when it hurts.” Psalms 15:1-3. And “ His truth endureth to all generations.” Psalms 100:5Īs the source of truth, God requires that His servants always speak truthfully. It explains that “ the word of the LORD is right and all his works are done in truth.” ( Psalms 33:4) because He is a “ God of truth.” Deuteronomy 32:4. The Bible throughout teaches that “ God is not a man, that he should lie.” Numbers 23:19. ![]() Jesus Christ said of God the Father, “ Your word is truth.” John 17:17 Daniel refers to God's Word as “ the Scripture of Truth.” Daniel 10:21. What do the Scriptures tell us about God, His Word and truth? Notice what several verses tell us: “ Every word of God is pure…” Proverbs 30:5. “ You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.” Exodus 20:16 How important is truth? To fully appreciate the Ninth Commandment with its prohibition of lying, we must realize how important truth is to God.
